RV Towing Guide

Before you fall in love with a floorplan, make sure your vehicle can move it. Look up your vehicle's tow rating below, then shop the trailers that fit inside that number. That way the rig you bring home is one you can pull with confidence.

Find Your Tow Rating

Pick your vehicle's year, make, and model. The lookup returns factory towing specs and the trailer types that stay within them.

Towing Tips

A few habits that keep every trip behind the trailer refreshingly uneventful.

Learn Your Limit Numbers

Three figures govern what you can pull: the gross combined weight rating, the gross vehicle weight rating, and the factory tow rating on the spec sheet. All three are printed on the driver’s door jamb sticker and spelled out in the owner’s manual. Look them up before you start comparing trailers.

Count Everything You Carry

A published tow rating assumes an empty cab. Every passenger, toolbox, cooler, and duffel riding along eats into what the vehicle can move behind it, so weigh your usual cargo load before deciding how big a trailer you can handle.

Pair the Hitch with the Trailer

Hitches are rated by class, and each class carries its own weight ceiling. Heavier campers do better with a fifth wheel or gooseneck hookup, which mounts over the rear axle and tracks steadier at highway speed than a bumper pull.

Rehearse Before the Real Trip

Never towed before? Borrow an empty lot and spend an hour turning, backing up, and braking with a trailer behind you — all three feel completely different with a few thousand pounds in tow. Build the habits somewhere low-stakes.

Know Your Number? Find the Trailer.

Once you know what your vehicle can handle, our team will help you pick a camper that fits that rating — and set you up with the right hitch to pull it.
